We Love Digitalis Plum Gold

This compact foxglove turns heads with its dark pink flowers whose throats are flecked with purple and gold. Usually we see foxgloves in the back of the garden, but the shorter stature of Plum Gold earns it a spot closer to the front, which makes it easier to enjoy its blooms. This foxglove can also fit in a container garden, where it might be the focal point.

Letting Go of the Mulch

Mulch is a wonderful addition to most gardens and can go a long way to improve the quality of the garden's soil. However, with the continued persistence of volcano mulching around trees, perhaps it's time we bid farewell to the often-misused garden staple.

Another Lobelia Steals the Spotlight

Lobelia Starship Deep Rose is a true stunner in the garden and it performs well! This new variety of cardinal flower blooms its first year (from seed), has better branching than other lobelia offerings and has strictly upright stems. It looks great in the garden and in cut flower arrangements.

A Tiny Plant With the Ability to Stop Traffic

One way to encourage visitors to stay longer in the garden is to plant demure plants that entice the viewer to stop and even bend over to take a closer look. We love dwarf Solomon's seal just for this reason. It is a lovely little woodland groundcover with shiny green leaves that adapts well to damp, humus-rich soils. In the spring, its petite white bell-shape flowers make us slow down and take note of this little charmer.
